| Danica Phelps is known for her exquisite line drawings and for detailed charts that record her everyday activities. We first showed work by Phelps in February 2004, in a show that focused on her then-brand new love affair with partner Debi Ray-Chaudhuri. Now, in “Danica Phelps and Debi Ray-Chaudhuri: Two Takes” the artists will create a collaborative show that includes paintings and drawings by each artist, created from shared source material (their shared lives), along with a sound installation of music recorded in the process of learning to play a simple Bach fugue together. The piece will be recorded over many practices without regard to the “perfection” of the music, but rather, with an ear to the process of learning together.
Danica Phelps lives and works in New York. Selected solo exhibitions include Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL) NY, and Ritter/Zamet, London, Sister Gallery, LA; Annet Gelink Gallery, Amsterdam. Group shows include Aldrich Museum of Art, CT; Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY; and Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada.Debi-Ray Chaudhuri lives and works in New York. Also opening on April 7, in the Mini Skirt, we're presenting “Elizabeth Huey: The Inexplicable Thing Between Us,” featuring a new suite of drawings and paintings that create complex and ambiguous scenarios that seem to entreat psychological interpretation and resist easy analysis. Employing both odd and familiar characters, Huey transforms the landscape into a space where the drama of thought processes can visually unfold. This exhibition includes a cast of devils on stilts, historically potent men, strong architecture, angelic saviors, burnt books and logs, cameras and machinery. Elizabeth Huey lives and works in New York. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Feigen Contemporary, NY, and Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN. Group exhibitions include Clementine, NY, Freight and Volume, NY, Agenzia04 in Bologna, Italy and Spaces in Cleveland, OH. |
