"Home Sweet Gated Home: Magda Fernandez" is a one person exhibition by Cuban-born, Boston trained sculptor and digital artist Magda Fernandez, whose installation at Allston Skirt Gallery deals with the uncomfortable ramifications of Gated Communities in our society. Fernandez, who is educated both in studio art and in political science, creates this installation as an expanded version of a project she presented in Miami last summer, as one of five finalists for the prestigious 2004 Cintas Foundation Fellowship in the Visual Arts. We also welcome you to join us at the gallery on Saturday, April 16 at 2 pm, for a conversation about the artwork with Fernandez and Rose Art Museum curator Raphaela Platow.
And Behind the Scenes at Allston Skirt Gallery, a group exhibition of abstract paintings called "Nowhere I Really Need to Be: Daniel Chen, Francis Holstrom, Sharon Kaitz, Jim Lee and Beth Reisman” features fresh new work by five artists at varying points in their artistic careers, with varying takes on the ever-fascinating interplay between abstraction, representation, and PAINT.
