Allston Skirt Gallery is pleased to announce our October 2005 exhibition "Bob Dylan: Unscripted," Gilbert's photographs of Dylan are casual and amazing- showing Dylan fooling around with Allen Ginsberg, Terry Southern, and John Sebastian, among others, playing music and playing around, a bonanza for Dylan fans. As Gilbert himself describes his experience photographing the young man who would become an icon for his generation: "In July of 1964, one year before his music changed from acoustic to electric, I photographed Bob Dylan for LOOK magazine. I spent time with him at his home in Woodstock, New York, in Greenwich Village, and at the Newport Folk Festival. The story was never published. After reviewing the proposed layout, the editors declared Dylan to be "too scruffy for a family magazine" and killed the story." The resulting photographs are playful and intense, historic and artistic, in short - not to be missed!! The show will run from October 7-29, 2005, with a free, public opening reception on Friday, October 7, 5-8 pm, and we're planning to screen Dylan films and having other Dylan-mania events during the show's run.
